A massive fire broke out in a cardboard-plastic factory in Vicky Factory area on Jhansi Road in Gwalior on Sunday night. Seeing the flames rising from the factory at around 11 pm, the watchman and nearby residents informed the police and fire brigade.
By the time the fire brigade and police reached the spot, the fire had taken a huge form. Till 11:30 pm, 22 fire tenders were busy extinguishing the fire, but till now it has not been controlled. The fire is spreading rapidly due to the large quantity of cardboard, plastic and chemicals in the factory.
This factory is said to be owned by the city’s leading businessman Pappu Gupta, who is present at the spot. Owners of other nearby factories have also reached the spot seeing the fire situation.
Fire department in-charge Atibal Singh said that every effort is being made to extinguish the fire. It may take time to control the situation as the fire is spreading further due to the presence of chemicals.
There is an atmosphere of chaos in the area after the incident. The cause of the fire and the damage caused are yet to be assessed.
