Lok Sabha compound into uproar over NEET 2024 controversy; oppositions’ microphones were turned off, house adjourned

Heated Debate and microphone muting incident:

In the Lok Sabha the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to blows with the Congress party led INDIA bloc over the contentious issue of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)

Shouting their lungs out in anger; members of the opposition called for immediate debate on the issue sidelining other parliamentary businesses. In the middle of a confusion, it was claimed that Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s microphone had been switched off resulting into chaos inside the House.

The future of this country’s young generation has been shattered due to serial paper leaks. There have been maximum number of paper leak cases in Haryana. The NEET exam paper was leaked but the union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan is running away from responsibility.

We had brought up discussion about it and when it was mentioned in the House, they turned off the microphone. “If the mike of the Leader of the Opposition is switched off, then there will be anger among other Opposition MPs and the same happened in the House. We demand that this issue be discussed,” said Deepender Hooda.

Rajya Sabha Witnesses High Drama Over NEET Controversy:

The Rajya Sabha witnessed an intense episode involving Vice President and Rajya Sabha Speaker Jagdeep Dhankar and Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge. It was all about Kharge coming up to the house to get Dhankar’s attention. Kharge later explained that he had to go to the house in order to get the attention of Dhankar. But according to Dhankar, Kharge was lying.

Adding more fuel to the fire, Kharge’s people hinted that the microphones of Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi could have been deliberately shut down during Parliament sessions. The development mirrored the claims in the Lok Sabha where it was a known fact that Rahul Gandhi’s microphone had been switched off thus deepening the already existing differences between the government and opposition party.

Speaker’s rejoinder to Rahul Gandhi’s claims:

In a turbulent Lok Sabha session, rapid response came from the speaker who quickly denied the allegations made by Rahul Gandhi. He said his mike was off all through the sitting and requested Birla to put it on. In a quick response, Birla refuted claims that there was any intention on his part to make Gandhi’s microphone inactive.

In spite of these assertions, opposition members demanded an immediate debate on NEET issue causing further disruptions within the house. The choice to spotlight on NEET controversy is indicative of a wider conflict between opposition party and ruling NDA media with both sides blaming one side for disrupting parliamentary proceedings

Opposition's Demand for NEET Discussion Rejected:

Earlier today, Congress filed adjournment motions in both Houses calling for suspension of other businesses so as to allow immediate discussion on NEET issues. However, Speaker Om Birla did not allow it and stated that the House was scheduled to discuss the Motion of Thanks on President Draupadi Murmu’s address to the Parliament. This refusal ignited heated arguments during the 18th Lok Sabha meetings by the opposition members.

Conclusion:

The NEET controversy has turned into one of the most topical issues in the Indian Parliament, attracting the attention of opposition parties interested in demanding accountability and transparency from the government. With such allegations like microphone blocking and consequent adjournment of both houses of parliament; increased tension means urgent settlement is needed as soon as possible.

As the parliament resumes sittings; will there be any respectful or constructive debate on NEET? This would mean address to youthful concerns as well as maintaining integrity in exam system.
