Kargil Vijay Diwas Programme:

Preparations are underway for the Vijay Diwas program to be held today on 26th July at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass.

Today (26 July) is the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kargil in Ladakh. He will attend the silver jubilee program organized at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras.

Here PM Modi will pay tribute to the heroes of the 1999 war. He will also meet their families. On the occasion of the silver jubilee of Kargil Vijay Diwas in Drass, programs will be held from 24 to 26 July. Earlier, PM Modi celebrated Diwali in Kargil with soldiers in 2022.

On 26 July 1999, India won the Kargil war by defeating Pakistani soldiers. Since then, this day is celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas. In this war that lasted for 84 days, 527 soldiers of the Indian Army were martyred, while 1,363 were injured. More than 400 Pakistani soldiers were killed.

General VP Malik, who was the Army Chief during the Kargil war, on Thursday (July 25) met the brave soldiers of the 1999 war and their families at the Lamochen View Point in Drass.

On Thursday, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi reached Kargil to attend the silver jubilee celebrations of Kargil Vijay Diwas. General VP Malik, who was the Army Chief during the Kargil war, also attended the ceremony with him. General Malik also met the brave soldiers of the 1999 war and their families at Lamochen View Point in Dras. Earlier, the Army Chief took stock of the security situation at Chinar Corps and LoC.

Children from across the country sent 2000 greeting cards to the Indian Army soldiers deployed in Kargil.

PM will also inaugurate the Shinkun La Tunnel project tomorrow
According to the PMO, PM Modi will attend the event at the Kargil War Memorial built in memory of the martyrs of the Kargil War in Drass at around 9:20 am. After this, he will inaugurate the Shinkun La Tunnel Project. This tunnel will provide all-weather connectivity to Leh. Once completed, it will be the highest tunnel in the world.
