In the Ghatkopar hoarding incident, Mumbai Police has arrested the main accused Arshad Khan from Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Prominent businessman Arshad Khan was absconding for the last seven months after he was called to record his statement in the case.

On 13 May, an advertisement hoarding had fallen due to the storm in Ghatkopar East. 17 people died and 84 were injured in this accident. This hoarding was installed illegally on Government Railway Police (GRP) land. During the investigation of the case, the police found that Ego Media Company had sent Rs 82 lakh to the bank accounts of people known to Arshad Khan.

Arshad Khan is a business associate of IPS officer Qaiser Khalid’s wife. Qaiser Khalid is accused of giving approval to put up hoardings on railway land. At that time, Khalid was the Commissioner of Government Railway Police. He was suspended for negligence in his work. Officials said that Arshad Khan did not appear before the SIT after recording his initial statement. The police was searching for him for the last few months, but he used to change his location again and again.

Police said that Arshad Khan was arrested from Lucknow on Sunday. The official said that transactions were done 22 times in different accounts by Ego Media Private Limited. This hoarding was installed by Ego Media Private Limited. Officials claim that most of these transactions were done when Qaiser Khalid was the GRP Commissioner. It is further reported that Rs 82 lakh was sent to 16 bank accounts. During interrogation, Khalid had told the officers that he knew Arshad Khan. The police is investigating the matter
