The villagers knew about the existence of a tunnel there from their ancestors. He gave this information to the correspondent. On this the correspondent informed the founder of Kafal Hill, Tarun Mehra. Tarun reached Gobaradi with his team. He reached the said place along with Ratan Ram and Mohan Singh Kanyal of the village. They saw the ruins of a big house in the form of a fort near the tunnel on top of the rock and the remains of about 30 to 35 small houses next to it. For the first time, Tarun Mehra and Chandan Karki along with him descended into the tunnel with the help of torch, camera and rope from the four feet circular mouth near it.
He told that the tunnel was made by cutting it with chisel and crowbar. Both of them descended 100 meters down the tunnel. To go further from there, the paths of two tunnels have been blocked with stones. When he tried to remove some stones there, steam-like smoke started rising from below.
According to the villagers, on one side of the closed tunnel there is a palace, a path leading to the pagoda and the other tunnel leads towards the river. He said that the structure of the walls of the remaining ruins indicate that there might have once been a fort here. It is also being linked to the rule of Katyuri and Chand kings.
In time, it is also indicating that it will become the main route on foot between India and Tibet. Tarun Mahara told that he has informed Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat and DM Vinod Goswami about the discovery of the underground fort. Manas Mehra, Yash Bafila, Ajay Joshi, Mohit Kumar, Ganesh Brijwal were also present with him.
Tarun has already discovered prehistoric cave
Tarun Mehra, who entered the tunnel, discovered a prehistoric cave in Chaukodi last year. After this he also discovered a special species of spider.
Based on the remains of tunnels and buildings found there is a possibility that a coat may have once existed there. The tunnels found in Gobaradi will be inspected soon. Something can be said only after on-site inspection. – Dr. Chandra Singh, Archeology Incharge Almora.
