Pune Porsche Accident

The Pune Police have apprehended the father of a 17-year-old boy involved in a tragic car  accident from Aurangabad Maharashtra. The teen was driving Porsche car while consuming Alcohol that resulted in two fatalities. The accident occurred around 2:15 am on Sunday in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area.

Pune Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar stated that the minor had been celebrating his class 12 results at a nearby pub, where he was seen consuming alcohol before the accident. In Maharashtra, the legal drinking age is 25, making it illegal for the pub to serve him alcohol. Consequently, the bar owners are also facing charges for serving alcohol to a minor.

According to police reports, a luxury Porsche, driven by the 17-year-old, collided with a motorcycle, killing Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa. CCTV footage revealed the car speeding at approximately 200 kmph through a narrow lane, as reported by NDTV.

The minor has been charged with rash and negligent driving, causing harm by endangering life or personal safety, under IPC Sections 304A, 279, 337, 338, and 427, as well as relevant sections of the Maharashtra Motor Vehicle Act.

Father Charged Under Juvenile Justice Act

The Pune police has given charges to boy’s father, a local builder, under Sections 75 (wilful neglect of a child or exposing a child to mental or physical harm) and 77 (supplying a child with intoxicating liquor or drugs) of the Juvenile Justice Act.

Additionally, legal proceedings have been initiated against the pub where the minor was seen drinking.

The Porsche crash resulted in the deaths of two IT professionals from Madhya Pradesh, Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta. Eyewitnesses reported that Ashwini was thrown 20 feet into the air, while Aneesh was hurled into a parked car. Bystanders rushed to the scene, and several videos have surfaced showing them attacking the car’s occupants.

Bail Conditions

Following his arrest, the Juvenile Justice Board released the minor on bail within 15 hours, imposing several rehabilitative measures. These include mandatory counselling, participation in a de-addiction program, and writing a 300-word essay on road safety. This lenient response has sparked widespread criticism given the severity of the incident.

“We have taken yesterday’s incident seriously. We have taken action under section 304 of the IPC, which is a non-bailable section as it was a heinous crime,” the Commissioner said.

In response to the bail decision, Pune police have submitted an application to the Sessions Court, requesting that the juvenile be tried as an adult, arguing that the seriousness of the crime warrants a more rigorous judicial process.
