PV Sindhu has entered the quarterfinals of the Syed Modi International Tournament in women’s singles by defeating her compatriot Ira Sharma in three games. Two-time Olympic medalist and world number 18 Sindhu had to battle for 49 minutes against 147th ranked Ira to register a 21-10, 12-21, 21-15 win in the second match.

Star shuttler PV Sindhu has entered the quarterfinals of the Syed Modi International Tournament in women’s singles by defeating her compatriot Ira Sharma in three games. Two-time Olympic medalist and world number 18 Sindhu had to battle for 49 minutes against 147th ranked Ira to register a 21-10, 12-21, 21-15 win in the second match.

Sindhu has been struggling with poor form for some time and her last title was at the Singapore Open in 2022. The 29-year-old Indian will face world number 118 Dai Wang of China in the next round. Wang defeated India’s Devika Sihag 19-21 21-18 21-11 in the second round.

Top seed Lakshya Sen, however, made it to the last eight with a straight games win against Israel’s Daniil Dubovenko in the men’s singles second round 21-14 21-13 in 35 minutes. Laksh will play in the quarterfinals against Mairaba Luwang, who defeated sixth seed Anhat Nguyen of Ireland 21-15 21-13.

In other men’s singles matches, India’s Ayush Shetty defeated Malaysia’s Hoh Justin 21-12 21-19 while third seed Kiran George lost to Japan’s Shogo Ogawa 21-19 20-22 11-21. India’s second seed Priyanshu Rajawat defeated Vietnam’s Lee Duc Phat 21-15 21-8 to reach the quarter-finals.
