New Delhi: Kannada actress Ranya Rao was caught bringing gold from Dubai at Bangalore Airport on the night of Monday 3 March. There are reports that she was bringing gold secretly. After his arrest, a picture of him has been very viral on social media. In the picture, Ranya’s eyes are seen to be swollen, due to which people are saying that the police must have assaulted her.
Nagalakshmi Chaudhary, chairman of the Karnataka Women’s Commission, has said that the matter cannot be investigated until the actress files a complaint herself. Ranya Rao is the half -daughter of a big police officer Ramchandra Rao. He was caught bringing 14.2 kg of gold at Kemp Gauda Airport in Bangalore on Monday night. The price of this gold is said to be around Rs 14.56 crore. She came to Bangalore from Dubai by flight to Emirates.
Ranya Rao is currently in custody of ‘Directorate of Review Intelligence’ (DRI). The Women’s Commission has condemned the alleged ‘attack’ on Ranya. However, the Commission says that until no formal complaint is received, it cannot take any action. According to the NDTV report, Nagalakshmi Chaudhary told the media, ‘If the Ranya Commission gives me a complaint in writing, then we will help them by talking to the officials. We will get a thorough investigation and ask for a report. But until she complains herself, the commission cannot do anything.
Ranya in custody till March 10
Nagalakshmi Chaudhary further said, ‘Whoever has attacked Ranya, he should not have done so. No one has the right to take the law in hand. The investigation should be done and the law will do its work. It is wrong to attack any woman or man. Ranya was produced in a special court on the morning of 7 March. The court has sent him to the custody of DRI till 10 March. Also, he has been allowed to meet his lawyer for half an hour every day.
Doubt increased after Dubai’s frequent trip
The court has instructed ‘DRI’ that no strictness should be taken during interrogation of Ranya. ‘DRI’ suspected when Ranya tripped Dubai for the fourth time in 15 days. Officials had come to know that last year Ranya had traveled to Dubai 27 times. After the arrest at the airport, officials also raided Ranya’s house. Gold jewelry worth more than Rs 2 crore and Rs 2.67 crore cash was recovered from there.
