The five-day session of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has started. The session began this morning with the address of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. During this time there was a lot of uproar in the house.
In the Assembly, PDP MLA Waheed Para protested against the removal of Article 370, which provided special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. Also presented a proposal. Apart from this, there was also a demand to restore the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The opposition created a ruckus in the assembly on this.
Abdul Rahim Rather elected Speaker of the Assembly
Senior National Conference (NC) leader and seven-time MLA from Charar-e-Sharif Abdul Rahim Rather was elected Speaker of the Assembly. The first Speaker election of the Assembly of Union Territory Jammu and Kashmir was held on Monday. Rather (80) was elected Speaker by voice vote after the opposition decided not to contest for the post. ‘Protem Speaker’ Mubarak Gul conducted the election process.
CM congratulated Abdul Rahim Rather
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah congratulated Abdul Rahim Rather on being elected Speaker of the Assembly. The Chief Minister said, “On behalf of the entire House, I congratulate you. You were a natural choice for the post of Speaker. No one objected to your being elected Speaker. Now you have become the patron of this House.
