Rajya Sabha Chairman Shri Jaideep Dhankhar repeated Jaya Bachchan’s request, while Jaya Bachchan jokingly said, ‘Thank you sir, request that you do not take so much pen.’ On this, the Vice President said, ‘I accept your advice.’ Then Jaya Bachchan further said, ‘Sir, as we have achieved a special place in Indian cinema, so we want to tribute our rich heritage of cinema. First, we are celebrating the 100th birth anniversary of legend filmmaker Raj Kapoor. Second, it has been 50 years since ‘Sholay’ and ‘Wall’ released. These films not only attracted the attention of the audience with their story, but also impressed the aspirations of the common people and had a profound impact on Indian cinema.
Jaya Bachchan further said, ‘Sholay was released in 1975 and was shown in theaters for 5 consecutive years, which shows its popularity. On this occasion, I request the government to release postage stamps on these films on the 50th anniversary of these films. This initiative will work to bridge the distance between generations and show the importance of preserving the heritage of Indian cinema. It also shows the role of cinema in describing cultural identity.
Special demand between special screening of ‘Chhava’
Jaya Bachchan referred to the special screening of ‘Wall’ by the film Heritage Foundation and IIFA spoke on the tribute of ‘Sholay’ in 2025. He requested the government to pay attention to their demand. Jaya’s husband and megastar Amitabh Bachchan has played the lead role in both films. Jaya Bachchan’s demand has come at a time when PM Narendra Modi planned to see ‘Chhava’ with the cabinet. The film ‘Chhava’ is made on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, which is accused of inciting Nagpur violence. Released on February 14, ‘Chhava’ has earned more than Rs 780 crore from the box office around the world.
