The drama never ends in Pakistan cricket. The latest example is related to Pakistan’s red ball cricket team. In fact, in April this year, the Pakistan Cricket Board had appointed former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie as the head coach of Pakistan’s Test team for 2 years. Following the departure of South Africa’s Gary Kirsten in October 2024, Gillespie was also made the coach of the limited overs team on an interim basis. Only 7 months had passed since Gillespie, who was associated with the Pakistan team, resigned from his post. In such a situation, Pakistan Cricket Board had to take a big step in a hurry.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Aaqib Javed as the interim red ball head coach of the Pakistan team after the resignation of Jason Gillespie. Aaqib’s first assignment as red ball head coach will be a two-match Test series against South Africa during the ongoing all-format tour.
Gillespie was angry with PCB’s decision
According to the report of ESPNcricinfo, Jason Gillespie was angry with the PCB for not extending the contract of Pakistan’s red ball team’s high performance coach Tim Nilsson. Gillespie was not given any information about this decision. Therefore he resigned from his post. The resignation of the coach from his post before the Champions Trophy may prove costly for the Pakistan team. The second coach of Pakistan team has resigned within 7 months.
The first Test between South Africa and Pakistan will be played from 26 to 30 December at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. The second Test will be played at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town from 3 to 7 January. Pakistan men’s team is currently touring South Africa playing a three-match T20 series, which will be followed by a three-match ODI series.
