What is the claim?
After the by-elections on nine seats including Karhal assembly in Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh, a video of a violent clash is being shared on social media. In the video, a man is shown attacking the woman with a brick, while others are also seen beating her with sticks. With this video it is being claimed that the incident took place in Karhal, where Samajwadi Party’s Prashant Yadav allegedly killed a Dalit girl for voting for BJP.

Family members allege that the girl wanted to vote for BJP, while accused Prashant Yadav was pressurizing her to vote in favor of SP. Upon her refusal, she was raped and murdered. The incident took a political turn, with BJP targeting SP, while SP Denied that accused Prashant Yadav was associated with the party.
The viral video is being shared in the context of Karhal by-election linking this incident. However, the video going viral is not of Karhal in Mainpuri but of the clash between two parties over a road dispute in Bhagwanpur village of Hanumanganj police station area of Kushinagar district.
How did the truth come out?
By reverse image searching the keyframes of the viral video, we found the same video in an X-post dated November 18, 2024, which said it was from Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh. Kushinagar police on this post official handle (archive Here) had informed that a case has been registered under relevant sections in Hanumanganj police station and two people have been detained.

Let us tell you that voting for Karhal by-election took place on 20th November, whereas this video is available on social media since 18th November.
We also received many media reports related to this incident. It is written in the report that many people including former village head representative Nagendra Chaudhary were seen attacking each other with bricks and stones in their hands. Rabri Devi, Guddi Devi, Rampravesh, Deepak and Radhika suffered serious injuries in the fight. The injured have been referred to the district hospital.
