The Kerala High Court has expressed displeasure over Malayalam actor Dileep being given VIP treatment to visit Lord Ayyappa temple during his Sabarimala visit. Kerala High Court considered it serious to stop pilgrims from having darshan of actor Dileep. A bench of Justice Anil K Narendra and Justice Murali Krishna S said that the question is not of only two minutes. Because the first two rows in front of the Sopanam were kept closed for a long time to allow the actor to have darshan. On this the court said that Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) should curb such privileges.

Malayalam actor Dileep had reached Sabarimala on December 5 for the darshan of Lord Ayyappan. He visited the temple just before it closed for the night. After this he left to participate in the Harivarasanam programme. Here actor Dileep was given VIP treatment, due to which the darshan of other pilgrims was hampered. Kerala High Court had taken suo motu cognizance in this matter. Also strongly reprimanded the Devaswom Board. In the case, the High Court had ordered the Devaswom Peeth to present the CCTV footage of the actor’s darshan in a pen drive.
CCTV footage was presented during the hearing in the High Court. The footage was shown in the court. According to the footage, at around 10.58 pm, the guards on duty stopped the movement of pilgrims from the first row in front of Sopanam from the southern side. After this, film actor Dilip entered the first row of Sopanam from the southern side at 10.58 pm and remained there till 11:05:45 pm.
On this, the court said that it is clear from the video that the movement of pilgrims in the first row from the northern direction was stopped at 10.51 pm by another guard. The court asked what action was taken by the Devaswom Board in the matter? On this, the board told the court that notices have been given to the officers including two guards in the matter.
The court asked what privileges do such people have? Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) and Chief Police Coordinator were directed to ensure that such incidents do not happen in future. Such privileges should not be given to any pilgrim to obstruct the darshan of the pilgrims for a long time in front of the Sopanam of Sabarimala Sannidhanam. The bench said that further action will be decided after the report of the Chief Police Coordinator and the Board Secretary. The next hearing in the case will be held on Friday.
