Indian professional boxer Mandeep Jangra won the World Boxing Federation (WBF) super featherweight world title by defeating Britain’s Conor McIntosh in the Cayman Islands. The 31-year-old Jangra, who trains under former Olympic silver medalist Roy Jones Jr., has suffered only one defeat so far in his professional career.
In the match against the British boxer, he had the upper hand in most of the rounds. Jangra landed powerful punches from the beginning and maintained his strength throughout the 10 rounds. The British boxer, on the other hand, struggled to maintain the pace. Conor tried to make a comeback, but Jangra maintained the lead for most of the round.
“This is one of the biggest wins of my career,” Jangra said in a media release. I worked hard for years to achieve this. It is a matter of pride for me that I could bring glory to the country.” Jangra, a resident of Haryana, made his professional boxing debut in 2021. He hopes this title will inspire more Indian boxers to turn professional.
He said, “I think this title will open the way for other boxers in the country and they will also decide to pursue a career in professional boxing. Our boxers are good and there is no dearth of talent among them. If he gets good promoters and managers, he can also become world champion.
Jangra has won 11 out of 12 bouts in his professional career so far, including seven knockout wins. He won a silver medal in the Commonwealth Games in 2014 as an amateur boxer.
