Cyclone Fengal intensified on Thursday midnight and according to the weather department, it is likely to hit the coast of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Saturday morning. Due to this cyclone, there is a possibility of heavy rain in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu for the next two-three days. In view of the situation, the Tamil Nadu government has ordered schools and colleges to remain closed on Friday. It has started raining in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu since Friday morning.

Meteorological Department said that strong winds will blow due to the impact of the cyclone.

The Meteorological Department said that the low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has turned into a cyclone and it is likely to hit the coast of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on the morning of November 30. The deep pressure area over South West Bay of Bengal moved at a speed of 9 kilometers per hour during the last six hours. According to the Meteorological Department, it is currently located 240 km north east of Sri Lanka, 390 km south east of Puducherry and 430 km south east of Chennai. On the morning of November 30, it will hit the coast between Karaikal in Puducherry and Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu. During this period, winds are expected to blow at a speed of 45-55 kilometers per hour. Due to the weather, heavy rain and cold was felt in Chennai and its surrounding areas.

Less chance of low pressure cyclone turning into a storm

However, it is a matter of relief that there is little possibility of this cyclone turning into a major storm. Although the wind speed may be a bit strong, there is no possibility of any major damage. NDRF has reviewed the situation and taken stock of the potentially affected areas. The government has advised fishermen not to go into the sea. Due to heavy rains, hundreds of acres of crops have been destroyed in many areas of Tamil Nadu.
