Former Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur’s difficulty has come down. In fact, the attempt to contest elections for the post of President of the Indian Boxing Federation has come back on track after the Himachal Pradesh High Court to stop their commissioner and BFI to extend the date of nomination for their candidature. Anurag Thakur, MP from Hamirpur Lok Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh, was disqualified in the order of 7 March by BFI President Ajay Singh.
Earlier on Wednesday, 19 March 2025, the Delhi High Court stayed a petition filed by the Delhi Amateur Boxing Association and stayed the BFI’s direction of March 7. According to Ajay Singh’s signature directive, only authentic and duly elected members of BFI recognized units are authorized to represent their states in the upcoming elections to be held in Gurugram on 28 March. Only elected members are eligible to be part of the electoral process.
Anurag Thakur wanted to represent Himachal Pradesh Boxing Association in the election, but was not considered an elected member. However, Justice Ajay Mohan Goyal ruled on Thursday 20 March 2025 that the election board approved by Election Officer RK Gaba on 13 March is wrong and is not going to last law. Anurag Thakur was not included in the Election Board.
The order states that the balance of convenience in this background is also in favor of the petitioners. If interim relief, as the petitioners have demanded that they are not provided, they will suffer irreparable damage. The court prohibits the instructions of the implementation of the notice of 07.03.2025 as an interim measure and one of the 2 mental members i.e. Anurag Singh Thakur to reject the nomination.
