The world’s youngest world champion D Gukesh will now face world number one Magnus Carlsen in Norway Chess next year. The tournament will be played here from 26 May to 6 June. 18-year-old Gukesh won the Tata Steel Masters this year, won gold for India in the Chess Olympiad, shone in the Candidates Tournament and then won the title of the World Championship held in Singapore recently.
Gukesh said during this time that, I am thrilled to face one of the strongest players in the world again in Norway. Armageddon would be fun. Gukesh had finished third here last year but this time as world champion he will challenge Carlsen at his own home.
Let us tell you that Jay Medland, founder and tournament director of Norway Chess, said that this match will be great. It will be interesting to see how the world champion fares against the number one player. The whole world will have an eye on this. In Norway chess, the world’s top male and female players will play in a double round robin format of 6 players.
D Gukesh returned from Singapore on Monday. He talked about the match upon returning to India. He said chess is not just about the strategy of a 64-square game and mental conditioning coach Paddy Upton helped him a lot in overcoming the emotional pressure during his historic performance at the World Championship.
