On January 28, a bench of three judges of the Supreme Court will hear the petition of former councilor and accused of Delhi riots in February 2020. The petition has demanded interim bail to campaign for the upcoming assembly elections in the capital.

The petition of Tahir Hussain will be heard before the bench of Justice Vikram Nath, Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Sandeep Mehta. Tahir Hussain is a former councilor of the Aam Aadmi Party. He is currently contesting the Delhi Assembly elections on AIMIM Party ticket.
On 14 January, Tahir Hussain was given a custody parole by the Delhi High Court for filing his nomination from Mustafabad assembly seat. Tahir challenged the Delhi High Court’s decision to dismiss the bail plea for the assembly election campaign in the Supreme Court.
Tahir Hussain is accused in 11 cases related to Delhi riots. He is also accused of killing IB officer Ankit Sharma. The Delhi riots on 24 February 2020 killed 53 people and many were injured.
