The work of uncovering the historical heritage buried under the ground is going on in Laxman Ganj. The municipality first got the excavation done with JCB. As the machine failed to work as the depth increased, the responsibility of digging was handed over to the municipal workers. After a historical structure was revealed during excavation, its pictures and videos have started going viral. Local people and administrative officials are also excited with the discovery of the old stepwell.
Earlier, digging was also done for the third day on Monday in search of a stepwell in Laxmanganj, a Muslim-dominated locality. During this time the stairs came into view. Till now some tunnel like corridors have also emerged. The presence of room-like shapes also indicates the presence of a huge underground building at this place. An ancient temple in ruins was found in Laxmanganj on 17th December. It was said to be a 150 year old Banke Bihari temple. On Saturday, during the Sampoorna Samadhan Diwas, an official of Sanatan Sevak Sangh had given an application to the DM claiming that there was an ancient stepwell in a plot of Laxmanganj.
When a ladder was seen in Monday’s excavation, workers were deployed in place of JCB. The officer present at the spot said that JCB has been deployed in lifting soil and digging at other places. To ensure that the original structure of the stairs and the ancient building attached to it is not damaged, excavation is being done at this place by workers. The digging was stopped when it became dark in the evening. EO Krishna Kumar Sonkar told that the stairs found today are the way to reach the water source in the stepwell or there is a building beyond it, which will become clear through excavation.
