Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will not contest the by-election on Milkipur assembly seat of Ayodhya. This was announced recently by the party. Earlier, the party had decided to make 2017 assembly election candidate Ram Gopal Kori contest the by-election on this seat. Ram Gopal had also campaigned vigorously on this seat.

But the disappointing performance in the by-elections held on nine seats in UP at the end of last year has also broken the morale of BSP. However, after the by-election results came out, BSP supremo Mayawati had decided not to contest any by-election in future, alleging misuse of government machinery in the by-election. It is believed that after BSP’s withdrawal, there is now a direct contest between Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on this seat.
