When was the Madras Regiment formed?

Madras Regiment is the oldest infantry regiment of the Indian Army. It was formed in 1750. The glorious history of this regiment is of bravery and valor. It was formed by the British East India Company. It was formed to fight the French. After independence, this regiment of the Indian Army has taken part in many operations with both. The regimental center of Madras Regiment is at Wellington Ooty in Tamil Nadu. It is commanded by a Brigadier rank officer.

Why is this battalion special?

The fighters of this regiment reach the battlefield first and leave the field last. Their motto is ‘Sarvatra’. That means they are present everywhere. The motto of the British Royal Engineers is derived from the Latin word ‘ubique’. The Madras Sappers Regiment has fought in all those places where the Indian Army has entered the war. Madras Regiment has 27 battalions across the country.

Why remain at the forefront?

‘Madras Sappers’, a group of ‘Corps of Engineers’ of the Indian Army, takes command of the rescue operation along with army equipment and machines to carry forward the rescue operation. Due to which they reach the forefront in any war. Madras Sappers were formed on September 30, 1780. It started with Pioneer. It was formed after the establishment of Bengal Presidency. Madras Regiment has received many awards in the country. It is also called the oldest regiment of the country.
