The Hero of Tiger Hill:

On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas 2024, we celebrate the book “The Hero of Tiger Hill” pertaining to the kargil war. In this day, it is a time to recall those men who exhibited great valor when they participated in the war at Kargil. One successful soldier among these warriors was Subedar Major Yogendra Singh Yadav and this autobiography entitled: “The Hero of Tiger Hill” has preserved his memory through ages. This year we pay tribute not only to his valiant act but also to what other comrades did together with him in order for our country`s pride and lost territories back.

The Prelude to Kargil Vijay Diwas:

Every year, Kargil Vijay Diwas is commemorated on July 26 to honor the courage and sacrifice of the Indian soldiers during the Kargil War of 1999. On this day, the Operation Vijay was successful because it enabled Indian troops to repossess Pakistani soldiers’ seized high points. An example of these high points was Tiger Hill which made Subedar Major Yogendra Singh Yadav a hero because he was so brave and daring.

Yogendra Singh Yadav: The Embodiment of Valor:

Ex-Subedar Major of Ghatak platoon story in his Book “The Hero of Tiger Hill discusses the Kargil War horrors. Among the highly dangerous missions given to him as a soldier was the attack on Tiger Hill. Despite the fact that everything seemed impossible, it is because of Yadav’s leadership qualities that they were able to succeed.

The Night of Reckoning:

The mission of Yadav and his platoon on the eventful night of July 4, 1999 was such that their exploit would remain remembered for long. The defense on Tiger Hill was intensive that it made climbing it hard due to the significant snow and snow in the place which created dead angles. However, this did not discourage Yadav from being at the forefront while courageously leading his group. Instead of backing down Yadav kept going upwards even after being shot. He was a hero, and his actions encouraged others to fight on.

The Turning Tide:

Yadav was a hero during the attack on Tiger Hill as he played decisive role in the conduction of this mission. He subdued an enemy bunker alone thus allowing his platoon to progress further. His extraordinary braveness and perseverance helped the Indian troops regain control over Tiger Hill. When Yadav was almost dead wounded, he did not lose courage. It was the mark of a real soldier.

Honoring a National Hero:

Because of his extraordinary courage, Subedar Major Yogendra Singh Yadav was given India’s highest military honor, known as Param Vir Chakra.

In the book “The Hero of Tiger Hill,” he gives an eyewitness account of the war by presenting some of the hurdles faced by Indian armies.

Soldiers still remember how he fought valiantly while people in general are also encouraged by his experience concerning the cost we suffer as a nation to safeguard our country.

The Legacy Continues:

The legacy of Subedar Major Yadav’s extends further than just battlefields. In many ways his life and experiences are a source of inspiration to the young generations that they may also become as dedicated and brave in serving their country. Till today, he still recounts his stories and speeches that keep other soldiers motivated underlining the fact that Kargil Vijay Diwas spirit is alive.
