Thunderstorm (1975)
The film was banned by Indira Gandhi during the Emergency, but it was released in theaters after the Janata Party government was formed in 1977. The film featured Sanjeev Kumar and Sutitra Sen in the lead roles. The film was based on Kamleshwar’s novel ‘Kali Andhi’. It is said that the emergency of Emergency was nothing short of an earthquake for the film industry. The film was banned due to being an Indian political drama.
Bandit Queen (1994)
The Delhi High Court stopped the release of the film for some time after questioning the truth of the film. Actually this film was based on Phoolan Devi and this story was raised by Phoolan Devi herself. It showed issues of sexual violence and caste discrimination, which were sensitive in the social and political scenario of the time. The sensor board was not very happy about this too. The film was later released. It was directed by Shekhar Kapoor. Seema Biswas was seen in the lead role. This story shook people.
Kamasutra: A Tail of Love (1996)
The film was banned for some time due to its sexual content. It was later released in India after removing a two -minute nude scene. At the same time, this scene was not removed in the foreign edition.
Fire (1996)
On its first day in India, some film theaters were attacked by Hindu fundamentalists due to showing homosexual relations. The film was withdrawn and sent back to the censor board. It was later released with some cuts suggested by CBFC.
Winds (2003)
The film, based on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, the film was banned in some Indian states like Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Punjab.
Black Friday (2005)
The 1993 Bombay bomb blasts inspired the film. The release of the film was stopped until the Bombay High Court pronounced the decision on the plea of the prisoners under consideration. The film’s initial release date in India was 28 January 2005. Despite the manufacturers’ appeal in the Supreme Court, the High Court’s decision was upheld. The film finally released on 9 February 2007.
Water (2005)
In Varanasi, radical Hindu organizations opposed it during the shooting of the film. On January 31, 2000, the Uttar Pradesh government decided to stop shooting. The shooting of the film was later transferred to Sri Lanka. The film was finally released in India in March 2007 after a long legal battle.
