Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday night on a five-day visit. His visit is taking place on the occasion of completion of 60 years of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore. Thurman aims to further strengthen India-Singapore bilateral relations in various fields.

Thurman’s first visit to India as President
Arriving in New Delhi with a high-level delegation, Tharman was welcomed at the airport by Union Minister Jitin Prasada. This is Thurman’s first visit to India as President of Singapore. Thurman will be formally welcomed at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday. In the evening he will hold discussions with President Draupadi Murmu, after which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet him.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on Twitter, ‘Special celebration of the 60th anniversary of India-Singapore diplomatic relations. Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam reached New Delhi on a state visit.
Thurman’s visit expected to give further momentum to bilateral relations
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said Tharman’s visit is expected to provide further impetus to bilateral relations. “President Thurman’s visit is expected to provide further impetus to bilateral relations, which were elevated to the level of comprehensive strategic partnership during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Singapore from September 4-5, 2024,” the MEA said.
Singapore President will also visit Odisha
The State Visit will also commence the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore, the Ministry of External Affairs said. Singapore President Thurman will also visit Odisha from January 17 to 18.
