The number of children from India is the highest among foreign students studying in America. About 3.3 lakh Indian students are studying in America. For the first time in 15 years, India is at the top of this list. This claim has been made in the Open Doors Report, 2024, released on Monday.
The largest number of students coming to America from abroad in the academic session 2022-23 were from China and India was at second place. Then 2,68,923 Indian students had come to America to pursue education. According to the latest report, there has been a jump of 23 percent in this number and the number of Indians has reached the highest ever number of 3,31,602. This number is 29 percent of the total students who came to study in America from abroad.
Now China is at second place and South Korea is at third place.
After India, China is at second place where 277398 students are studying in America. South Korea is at third place (43,149), Canada is at fourth place (28,998) and Taiwan is at fifth place (23,157).
The Open Doors Report is published by the Institute of International Education. The IIE releases a study annually about the number of foreign students in the United States.
India on top for the first time since 2008
In a statement issued in this regard, the US Embassy in India said, for the first time since 2008-2009, India is at the top in terms of sending its students to America. This is the highest ever number of Indian children studying in America. In America, the academic session normally starts from September and continues till May.
Most students reached for higher education
India remained the largest source of sending international graduate (Masters and PhD level) students to the US for the second consecutive year. The number of Indian graduates coming to America for this level of higher education has increased by 19 percent to 1,96,567. The number of undergraduate students increased by 13 percent to 36,053, while the number of non-degree students decreased by 28 percent to 1,426.
