Driving a two-wheeler without wearing a helmet is illegal in the country and there is a rule to impose financial penalty on it. But just imagine, what would happen if you were walking, and the police forcibly caught you and issued you a challan for not wearing a helmet?
You will say, how can this happen, why would anyone wear a helmet while walking? But a case going viral on social media has surprised people, where in Panna district of Madhya Pradesh, a challan has been issued to a person for not wearing a helmet while walking.
Police issued challan to a person walking on foot
In Panna district of Madhya Pradesh, a person was fined Rs 300 for not wearing a helmet while walking. Later the man contacted the Superintendent of Police (SP) and demanded action against the guilty officers. The incident took place in Ajaygarh police station area, about 40 kilometers from Panna district. According to a person named Sushil Kumar Shukla, he was going to invite guests on his daughter’s birthday when he was stopped by a police vehicle.
The man was walking on foot to invite his daughter on her birthday.
Shukla claimed that he was forcibly put into the police vehicle and taken to Ajaygarh police station, where he was kept in custody for some time. When he told that he had to return home to celebrate his daughter’s birthday, the officials allegedly noted down the registration number of a motorcycle parked nearby and fined him for riding the bike without a helmet. Troubled by the incident, Shukla went to Panna and gave a complaint letter to the SP demanding investigation and appropriate action.

Users slammed the police administration
Responding to the complaint, the SP told the media that the matter is being reviewed and the investigation has been handed over to Ajaygarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDOP) Rajeev Singh Bhadauria. The SP said that initial information appeared to be incomplete and assured that further action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation. As soon as the matter went viral on social media, users slammed the administration for this attitude of the police. One user wrote…Police’s hand works only on the weak.
Another user wrote…Action should also be taken against the officers who give police jobs to such people. So another user wrote… there is looting in the country, open looting. People are so troubled by inflation and hunger that they are snatching money from people on the streets.
