What is the claim?
Ahead of Delhi Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s official Is. In the video, Pankaj Tripathi is seen appealing to people not to vote for BJP.
In the video, Pankaj Tripathi, dressed as a peanut seller, checks his phone and looks at the camera, saying, "We sell peanuts, not our intelligence. See this message. BJP people have sent, they are saying that we will develop. Oho! Don’t we know? Here we will vote for them, on the other side government money is missing. I am a peanut seller, I am not a fool… Remember, if BJP people give any lure, then say that I am not a fool." How did we find out the truth?
By searching the viral video through reverse image search, we found out the real Video found, uploaded on September 23, 2024 UPI will work (archive here) was uploaded by the channel on YouTube. “Peanut seller | Fake Lottery Link UPI Security Awareness” The video titled was part of a public awareness campaign about UPI (Unified Payments Interface) scams.
In the original version, Pankaj Tripathi promotes UPI payments and warns people about potential frauds. . He says, “We sell peanuts, not our intelligence. See this message – it says, ‘Lottery has started, click the link and enter UPI PIN, you will get money!’ Oho! Don’t we know? Entered UPI PIN here, and money disappeared there. I am a peanut seller, I am not a fool. Remember, UPI says – If someone tempts you, say, ‘I am not a fool.’”
Several inconsistencies indicate that the video has been digitally altered. At 0:09 in the viral video, Tripathi appears on his mobile screen “Vote BJP” The message shows, but it is added separately using text editing. In the actual video, the screen shows a white background and black text that says “WINNER” It is written.
In the video, the audio also resembles Pankaj Tripathi’s voice, indicating that it was cloned. Artificial Intelligence has been used for this. Online deepfake detection tool TruMedia found significant evidence of manipulation in the clip, with one detector estimating an 85 percent chance that the audio was created by an AI tool.
Verdict
An edited video of actor Pankaj Tripathi was shared with the false claim that he has appealed to people not to vote for BJP. Actually, in the video he is seen alerting people about UPI fraud.
