NASA awards 11.5 million dollars to five companies to help design the aircraft of tomorrow

NASA is now preparing to build the aircraft of the future. These aircraft will be new generation commercial planes which will be more efficient and durable than conventional airplanes. Besides, they will also contribute in reducing the emissions in the environment. The space agency has entrusted this responsibility to 5 companies. This is a new initiative of NASA which the space agency has named Advanced Aircraft Concepts for Environmental Sustainability (AACES). NASA wants to make this project a reality by 2050. US space agency NASA plans to create futuristic airplanes to change the face of commercial aviation. The company has hired five companies for this and has given them funding of $ 1.15 million (Rs 97 crore). The list of companies includes names like Boeing’s Aurora Flight Sciences, Electra, Georgia Institute of Technology, aviation startup JetZero, and Pratt & Whitney. Four companies and one university will together design and prepare the blueprints for these airplanes. Their concept designs have also been presented on the official website of NASA. According to Romar Frazier, head of aviation startup JetZero, ‘NASA has always continued to invest in new technology and this is a core part of its innovation philosophy. The startup further said that they are very excited to work on these concepts. When these aircraft are launched commercially, they will help in reducing emissions.

Nateri Madavan, director of NASA’s Advanced Air Vehicles Program, said in a press release that the program aims to identify promising solutions that will transform aviation and help achieve more sustainable goals. JetZero, a Long Beach, California-based aviation startup, is known for its blended wing body aircraft design. The startup has received funding of more than 2 million dollars from NASA. Through which it will work when cryogenic liquid hydrogen is used as a fuel source in future airplanes. Similarly, all the five companies will contribute in different ways.
