IPL Franchise Said Mega Auction Every 5 Years Demand From BCCI Give 8 Right To Match Cards, 4 6 Players Can Be Retained

IPL franchises have demanded from BCCI to hold a mega auction every 5 years. Till now, mega auction is held every 3 years. The board had organized a feedback session on the mega auction on Wednesday. Officials of all 10 franchises participated in it. The franchises demanded retention of players from 4 to 6 and 8 right to match cards.

A senior official of a franchise told Cricinfo that it is more beneficial to have a mega auction in 5 years instead of 3 years. This will give the franchise enough time to prepare uncapped players.

Earlier, IPL franchises used to get 3 Right to Match cards.

3 big demands of franchise…

  • There is a mega auction in IPL every three years, but now the franchises have demanded to extend this time by 2 years.
  • Many teams were asked to retain 6 players. Currently, the franchise can retain 4 players.
  • 8 Right to Match (RTM) cards should be given, currently 3 Match to Right cards are given.
  • Right to increase or decrease the auction price of players based on their performance.

We have also demanded rights to player salaries: Franchisee
Another suggestion given by the official was regarding salary. According to this, the franchise should be given the right to directly negotiate with the players between the 2 mega auctions on the basis of their performance.

This will give teams a chance to retain their big players. Also, those players will benefit who were earlier bought at the base price or at a lower amount. For example, Rinku Singh was bought by Kolkata for 55 lakhs.

Demand to retain the captain
Teams should be allowed to retain a big player or the captain. Apart from this, other players should be allowed to be included as per the Right to Match. Right to Match was used in the 2017 mega auction, when teams were allowed to retain a maximum of 5 players by combining retention and RTM.

The performance of the players challenged the teams
This time in IPL 2024, some players have increased the tension of the franchise. There are many players who have now become match winners and were bought at a low price. This time the teams will be ready to keep a big amount for those players. It will be a challenge for the teams to retain such players in their camp. There can be competition in the mega auction for these players.
