The 2025 badminton season has started with the Malaysia Open Super 1000. However, strange things were seen on the very first day of the season. Water started dripping from the roof of the stadium during the first Level 2 badminton tournament of 2025, which started on January 7, at the Axiata Arena Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. Due to water dripping from the roof, the matches being played on Court 2 and Court 3 had to be stopped.
The match between Indian shuttler HS Prannoy and Canada’s Brian Young was going on on court number 3, but it had to be stopped. At the time the match was stopped, HS Prannoy had won the first game 21-12, while leading 6-3 in the second game. During the match, HS Prannoy noticed water accumulating on the court to his left near the net on Court 3.
Young also had problems earlier, but the court was cleared by courtside officials. However, in the second game, Prannoy signaled to the chair umpire that the court had become dangerous as large spots had formed on the court.
Apart from HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen and Priyanshu Rajawat are also participating from India’s men’s singles in this competition with prize money of 14 lakh 50 thousand US dollars. In women’s singles, Akarshi Kashyap, Anupama Upadhyay and Malvika Basond will present the Indian challenge. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are participating in men’s doubles. He is seeded 7th in the tournament.
