Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: Sanjay Roy will be sentenced today, was declared guilty on January 18

Kolkata: Sanjay Roy will be sentenced today in Kolkata’s famous RG Kar rape-murder case. It is noteworthy that Sanjay Roy was convicted by the Sealdah Court on January 18 in the case of rape and murder of a female trainee doctor. Sanjay Roy has been convicted under sections 64, 66 and 103(1) of BNS.

What is RG Kar rape and murder case?

The body of a 31-year-old female trainee doctor was found in a hospital conference room on August 9, 2024. Later it was found out that the doctor was first raped and then murdered. Doctors had protested for a long time against this incident.

The hearing of this case started in a closed room on 12 November. A total of 50 witnesses were examined and the hearing concluded on 9 January. The main accused in this case was Sanjay Roy. The police had arrested Sanjay Roy on August 10, soon after the incident on August 9. A Bluetooth earphone found near the victim’s body led to the police arresting Sanjay Roy as he was seen entering the seminar hall with the device around his neck in CCTV camera footage.

What did Sanjay say after being declared guilty by the court?

When the court convicted Sanjay Roy on January 18, Sanjay Roy said that he was innocent. Sanjay Roy said that if he had committed the crime, his Rudraksh rosary would definitely have been found at the crime scene. Sanjay Roy, who works as a volunteer with West Bengal Police, said that he has been falsely implicated in the case of rape and murder of the doctor. Sanjay Roy was seen in the CCTV camera roaming near the seminar hall of the hospital where the doctor was murdered. She claimed on Saturday that the real culprits of the crime were not prosecuted.
