New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, referring to Bollywood singer Kishore Kumar in the Rajya Sabha, responded to the criticism of the Congress party. He told how the Congress crushed the freedom of expression of emergency. The Prime Minister gave the example of singer Kishore Kumar and Hridaynath Mangeshkar that the Congress had banned them only because both the stars did not treat them accordingly.

PM Narendra Modi claimed that during the Emergency, all the songs of Kishore Kumar were banned in All India Radio, as he refused to sing for the Congress party. On the other hand, Lata Mangeshkar’s brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar was banned in All India Radio for not working according to the Congress.

When Congress party punished Kishore Kumar
PM Narendra Modi said, ‘People who talk about the Constitution have kept the Constitution in their pocket for years. The Constitution is not respected. Kishore Kumar refused to sing for the Congress. All the songs in his All India Radio were banned for this one crime. I cannot forget those days of Emergency. Kishore Kumar sang songs in all Indian languages. Apart from his singing, he was famous for his personal life and impeccable style.

When Hridaynath Mangeshkar was banned
PM Narendra Modi again recalled an incident related to Lata Mangeshkar’s brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar. He said, ‘Lata Mangeshkar’s brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar ji had planned to present a poem on Veer Savarkar and present it on Akashvani. On such a matter, Hridaynath Mangeshkar was dropped from AIR. AIR has always been the center of art and music. It has been an important medium of entertainment and information for people in the old era. Political parties in power used it according to their needs.
