The first budget session of the Legislative Assembly is starting with the Lieutenant Governor’s address in the Civil Secretariat Jammu from today. On the first day in this budget session, which runs till April 11, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will highlight the achievements and priorities of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.

The budget session is expected to be uproar. PDP, especially in the opposition, is preparing to raise many disputed issues. Meanwhile, after the BJP, the strategy was finalized for the session in the National Conference (NC) and Congress Legislature Party meetings on Sunday.

The Lieutenant Governor will start his address at 10 am on Monday morning in the central room of the assembly premises. All members have already been asked to be present in the room. The legislators have been told to maintain full dignity during the address and listen to the address carefully.

According to the program released by the Assembly, a vote of thanks on LG’s address from 4 to 6 March will be discussed and replied. On March 7, the Chief Minister will present a budget of 2025-26 and a supplementary budget of 2024-25. Since Jammu and Kashmir is a union territory and the government does not have the home department, the MLAs will not question the matters related to the house.

Every MLA can put 20 questions

This is the second assembly session of the government formed after a long gap of seven years in Jammu and Kashmir. There are a total of 90 seats in the assembly. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah won from Ganderbal and Budgam seat. Two seats are lying vacant due to the death of his Budgam seat and the death of Devendra Singh Rana, who was an MLA from Nagrota seat.

There are five ministers with the Chief Minister in the state cabinet. Each MLA can put 20 questions. It is being told that about 1300 questions have been given by the MLAs. In the ruling party, there are 42 NC and 28 BJP MLAs in the opposition, while Congress has six MLAs. Apart from this, there are other parties and independent MLAs.
