Indian team batsman Devdutt Padikkal was disappointed when he did not find any buyer in the IPL mega auction. Padikkal’s base price was Rs 2 crore, but no one bought him. Padikkal was happy when he was stopped due to injury to Shubman Gill. He joined the Indian team and batted at number three in both the innings. However, he could not do anything special. He could not open the account in the first innings, whereas he scored 25 runs in the second innings. This did not prove to be good for Padikkal and no team bid on him. However, Padikkal has scored a lot of runs in domestic cricket and hence, he may eventually get bid for in the accelerated auction.
Devdutt Padikkal was earlier playing for Lucknow franchise. Devdutt Padikkal was born on July 7, 2000 and he is currently 24 years old. He is a left handed batsman. He made his IPL debut in 2020. Padikkal has played 64 matches so far in his IPL career and has scored 1,559 runs at an average of 25.15. The Lucknow franchise had acquired the services of Devdutt Padikkal for Rs 7.75 crore in the IPL auction 2024. On May 2024, he played his last IPL match against Mumbai at Wankhede Stadium and could not open his account.
He was with Rajasthan Royals in 2023 and before that he was with Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, his best seasons came in 2020 and 2021 when he scored more than 200 runs. He became the first player to remain unsold in Auction 2025. In the same auction, Indian stars like Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer were bought for a record amount of Rs 27 crore and Rs 26.75 crore respectively. David Warner also did not sell. Delhi had released Warner ahead of the scheduled IPL 2025 mega auction. Warner has been a part of this cash-rich league since 2009 and has played for two IPL teams in his career. These include Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
