The viral claim is false. BOOM found that this video of children holding bundles of old Rs 500 notes is from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. It was recorded by local creator Brajesh Mishra on 26 December 2024.

A video is going viral on social media, in which two children doing scrap work are seen carrying bundles of old Rs 500 notes. Users are citing this video as being from Pakistan and counting the benefits of demonetization.
While some users liked the video Uttarakhand Claimed that these old notes of Rs 500 have been found in a dustbin in Muni Ki Reti of Rishikesh.
BOOM found that the claim being made with the video is false. This video is not from Pakistan but from India. It was recorded by a content creator named Brajesh Mishra in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh.
In this 34-second video, a person is seen asking for old notes from those children and shooting a video of this incident.
It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced demonetization on 8 November 2016. After this, old notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 were taken out of circulation from midnight of 8 November.

On reverse image search we get TV 9 A web story was found, in which it was told that this video was shared with the Instagram handle named akhimishra511.
Taking a hint from here, we reached Akhimishra’s Instagram, where we found this picture shared on December 27, 2024.
Many posts related to the viral video have been made on this Instagram handle. One Video Its creator thanks people and says that the video was shared from his nephew’s account. Also, while showing old Rs 500 notes, he says, ‘I will go to meet those boys (junk picking children).’

We contacted creator Brajesh Mishra for confirmation. He told BOOM, “A false claim is being made with the video. I had shot this video on December 26 near Ashiana intersection in Lucknow. While passing through the road, we found these boys with a bundle of notes.”
He further said, “Both the children seen in the video work as garbage collectors in this area. They found these bundles of old Rs 500 notes in a dustbin. After the video went viral, I went to meet them. However, some boys Those notes were later snatched away from those children.”
He sent BOOM the original video as well as pictures of the old Rs 500 notes and confirmed that the notes were genuine. However, BOOM cannot independently verify whether the notes are genuine or fake.
