The Indian Golf Union (IGU) led by Harish Kumar Reddy has been recognized while the other organization led by Brijinder Singh has been declared invalid. Two Annual General Meetings (AGMs) were held on 15 December to elect new office bearers of IGU.
New Delhi. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has recognized the Indian Golf Union (IGU) led by Harish Kumar Reddy while derecognizing the other body led by Brijinder Singh. A letter issued on Monday, signed by IOA president PT Usha, said the National Olympic Committee had ‘reviewed the facts’ and ‘checked procedural compliance’ before granting recognition to the Reddy-led body. Two Annual General Meetings (AGMs) were held on 15 December to elect new office bearers of IGU.
One of these took place at the India Habitat Center in which Brijinder was re-elected as president. For this, retired judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court Rameshwar Malik was made the returning officer. The second AGM was held at the Olympic Bhawan where Reddy was elected president and Justice OP Garg (retd) played the role of returning officer. In its letter, the IOA, giving reasons for recognizing the Reddy-led body, said returning officer Justice Garg never resigned as alleged by previous IGU office-bearers.
“After a detailed study of the documents of two separate AGMs and elections held on the same date at two different places in New Delhi, it has been concluded that the returning officer Justice OP Garg (Retd.) The AGM and elections conducted by the IGU are valid for several reasons and some of them are that initially the officially appointed Returning Officer had never resigned as alleged by the IGU and thus the same was liable to be held for holding the elections notified by the IGU. Was a capable person.
