A horrific accident took place in a private hospital in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu. At least six people died in a fire in the hospital here. Police and fire officials of the district gave this information. Officials said all the people were found unconscious in the hospital lift. How the fire broke out in the hospital is not yet known. However, in the initial investigation the cause is said to be short circuit.

Police officials said that the people found unconscious in the lift were immediately taken to the hospital, but they were declared dead there. According to doctors, these people died due to suffocation. One innocent child and three women are also said to be among those killed.

Officials also said that fire and rescue personnel had evacuated about 30 patients from the hospital, after which they found the deceased inside the lift. Officials said that the evacuated people have been admitted to the district GH. Scenes shown on TV showed fire and smoke coming out of the building. To control it, fire engines have been deployed.

Dindigul District Collector MN Poongodi also took cognizance of this accident. He said that a fire broke out in a private hospital about two hours ago. The patients here have been rescued and admitted to nearby government and private hospitals. There may be some casualties, but we will confirm the number of deaths only after confirmation from doctors.
