He had taken many important decisions in a very small tenure. Gurmukh Nihal Singh represented Daryaganj assembly constituency. He became the first president after the assembly was formed in 1952. Gurmukh Nihal Singh is the first Chief Minister of Delhi and the only Chief Minister of Delhi.
Alcohol ban applicable in Delhi?
Nihal Singh was a staunch supporter of liquor ban. He had opposed the opening of liquor shops in Delhi even before becoming CM. At the same time, after assuming the post of CM, liquor ban was implemented in Delhi. His decision created an uproar in the capital. At that time, PM Jawaharlal Nehru wrote a letter to Gurmukh Nihal Singh in this matter. But Nihal Singh did not withdraw the decision to lift the ban from liquor ban in Delhi.
