
New scam on WhatsApp
Dot has asked users to be careful with the new type of scam. The telecom regulator has also forbade people to download photos, videos etc. from instant messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram. These days, hackers send dangerous mailware to users’ phones through photos and videos, which stole the details of their bank account. The Department of Telecommunications has also given some measures to avoid such scams.
New dangerous scam
The smartphone has become a need for users these days. Users do not only use their phone for calling, but can also access UPI transactions, banks etc. through it. In such a situation, if you get access to someone, then your bank account can be dent in your bank account. Scammers are always trying to scam with people by adopting new ways. Such scams have been named Steganography.
Giving information about this new fraud from its official X handle, the Department of Telecommunications said that scammers share photos or videos using social media platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook Messenger, Instagram in the name of any invite or offer etc. By looking at new offers or invite etc., users download those photos or videos in the phone. As soon as this, scammers inject dangerous viruses in the users’ phones and take access to their phone.
Phone hack through photo-video
Many times the users are not even aware and in their phone, photos and videos are automatically downloaded through apps like WhatsApp, Instagram. Such users have to go to the settings of these apps and stop the option to be automatically downloaded for photos and videos. This will give two types of benefits to users. The first is that the data of their phone will not end quickly and the second scam will be avoided.
How to avoid steganography?
The Department of Telecommunications has forbidden users to download photos, audio and video from any unknown number. Along with such media files, scammers also share a link to the user. Inadvertently, these links open users, through which the access hackers of the users of the users reaches the hackers.
