West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met teachers and non-teaching staff who lost their jobs. Mamta Banerjee said, ‘There is a conspiracy to destroy the education system. Teachers of 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th are the gateway to higher education. Many teachers are gold medalists, they have achieved excellent results in their lives. You are calling them a thief. You are calling them disabled. Who gave you this right? Who is playing this game? Addressing the people who lost the job, Mamta said, ‘Please do not understand that we have accepted it. We are not a stone heart and I can also be jailed to say so, but I don’t care about it.

Hundreds of people who lost their jobs met Mamata Banerjee
In fact, the Supreme Court upheld the order of the Calcutta High Court in which the appointment of more than 25,000 employees in Bengal schools was canceled by SSC. Meanwhile, hundreds of people who had lost their jobs as teaching and non-teaching staff in government and aided schools in Bengal met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday. The meeting took place at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata.

‘Mamta Banerjee should go to jail’
In the case, LOP (Leader of Opposition) of West Bengal, Shubhendu Adhikari, along with BJP MLAs, demonstrated against the state government. They are demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the matter of going to SSC teachers after the Supreme Court order. He said, ‘Mamta Banerjee should go to jail. He is the main beneficiary. His nephew took a bribe of Rs 700 crore.
What did the Supreme Court say?
Earlier on Thursday, the Supreme Court upheld the Calcutta High Court’s decision by the Supreme Court on the Calcutta High Court to cancel the recruitment of more than 25,000 teachers and non-teaching staff for the state-run and aided schools in 2016. A bench of Chief Justice of India Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar found that the selection process was cheated extensively. The bench said that this is a case in our opinion in which the entire selection process was ruined. There is only any scope of solution in the process. The whole process seems to be tainted. The effort of large-scale manipulation and cover-up has damaged the selection process. In such a situation, the reliability and validity of the selection has ended.
How did the matter reach the Supreme Court?
The decision of the apex court came on a petition filed by the West Bengal government, challenging the April 2022 order of the Calcutta High Court. In this, recruitment of more than 25,000 teachers and other employees for the state -run and aided schools was canceled. The apex court reserved its verdict in the case on 10 February.
