Justice Upadhyay’s report … debris was removed on 15 March
According to the report by Justice Upadhyay, Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora said that 30, Tughlaq Crescent, Office in Tughlaq Crisant, New Delhi caught fire in the store room at 11:30 pm on 14 March. On the instructions of CJI, I sought PCR call source and other information from Arora. The Police Commissioner said on 16 March that the PCR call was made by the private secretary of Justice Verma from the mobile number.
Justice Upadhyay said, the store room is next to the guard room, where CRPF is posted. The store room was kept closed. I sent my registrar cum secretary to the spot. He went to the room with Justice Verma where there was a fire. He is adjacent to his office. The registrar reported that the room was working as a store room. The room was dark. There were cracks in the walls.
Justice Upadhyay said, on the evening of 16 March, I immediately came near you (CJI). Gave all the information. Justice Verma met me at the guest house of the High Court at 8:30 am on March 17. He said, there were only unusable household items in the room where there was a fire. The room was also accessible to servants, gardeners and CPWD personnel. He was in Bhopal at the time of the incident, he got information from the daughter. Then I showed him pictures and videos on my WhatsApp, which the Police Commissioner sent. Justice Verma feared a conspiracy on this.
Justice Upadhyay said, on March 20, I sent photos, videos and two messages to you (CJI). Yesterday evening I received your letter, in which Justice Verma was aware of the proposal to send back the Allahabad High Court. I replied in the evening that the proposal is in the interest of better administration of justice. Justice Upadhyay wrote, “In my investigation and the March 16 report of the Police Commissioner, it was revealed that according to the guard posted at Justice Verma’s residence, debris and other burnt items were removed from the room on the morning of 15 March. Hence there is a need to investigate the entire case.
Top court also released the reply of Justice Yashwant Verma
Along with the investigation report, the Supreme Court also released the reply of Justice Yashwant Verma. In his answers, Justice Verma has denied the allegations. He has said that this seems clearly a conspiracy to trap and discredit them. There was never any cash in that storeroom by his or any member of his family. He said that he strongly condemns that the alleged cash was his. The room where the fire broke out and where the alleged cash was found was an outhouse and not the main building where the judge and his family live.
