If you have read the book ‘Black Warrant’ written by Sunil Gupta, then you would know how many sensational things have been written in this book. Director Vikramaditya Motwane has made a series with the same name on this book, which is filled with stories ranging from the five star facilities provided to Sahara family head Subrata Roy Sahara to the activities surrounding the hanging of terrorists. This series is going to be aired on Netflix very soon.
Actor Kunal Kapoor’s son Jahaan Kapoor has played the role of jailer Sunil Gupta in the web series ‘Black Warrant’, shot in the closed Golden Tobacco Factory premises of Mumbai. Apart from Jahan Kapoor, there are many other lead actors in the film and the interesting thing is that the producer company of this series is also Vikramaditya’s production company Andolan Films. Aditya Birla Group company Applause Entertainment has invested in this series.
Although Applause has till now been known only as a company making Hindi remakes of foreign series, but the domestic audience is no longer interested in watching such series. Proof of this can be seen in the second season of the company’s recently released series ‘Taanav’, which is a remake of the worldwide popular series ‘Fauda’. Sameer Nair, considered the pioneer of satellite channels in the country, is also the head of Applause Entertainment and instead of remakes, he has now decided to focus on original stories.
In the year 2000, Vikramaditya Motwane had decided to make a web series based on the book ‘Black Warrant’ based on true events. Supporting him in this mission is journalist Josie Joseph, whose company Confluence Media, along with Andolan Films, bought the rights to make a series on this book. In July last year, an agreement was signed between Andolan Films and Aditya Birla Group company Applause Entertainment to make this series. The web series ‘Black Warrant’ is being made on the book of the same name published by Roli Books, which has been written by Sunetra Chaudhary, a former journalist of Indian Express, along with Tihar jailer and later spokesperson Sunil Gupta. This book contains such a detailed description of the hanging of some criminals convicted by the court that one gets goosebumps while reading it. Apart from this, the facilities provided to Sahara Group chief Subrata Roy while spending time in Tihar Jail have also been described in detail in the book.
Jahan Kapoor is playing the role of Sunil Gupta, co-author of the book ‘Black Warrant’ and former jailer of Tihar in this series. He has a wide army of artists with him. Apart from Bhopal, the shooting of the series has also been done in the closed warehouses of a cigarette factory in Mumbai. Vikramaditya Motwane, who came into limelight last year by making a series called ‘Jubilee’ on OTT, had brought approval from Netflix’s US office for its first series made in India, ‘Sacred Games’. However, his film ‘Control’, released this year on Netflix, was completely rejected by the audience.
