After Uttarakhand, preparations for the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) have been started in Gujarat too. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said that a five -member committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Supreme Court Judge Ranjana Desai to draft the Uniform Civil Code and enact laws. The committee will submit its report to the state government in 45 days, on the basis of which the government will decide.

The Chief Minister of Gujarat further said that the Constitution of India is to fulfill the duties of citizens. Patel said, ‘This year under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are celebrating the completion of 75 years of the Constitution. Their goal is to implement the Uniform Civil Code across the country, so that everyone gets equal rights.

Citing the abolition of Article 370 and banning triple talaq, CM Patel said that the promises made on Article 370, a nation one election and triple talaq are being fulfilled. In this direction, Gujarat is continuously working to fulfill PM Modi’s resolve. The government is working to ensure equal rights and opportunities for all.
What did Gujarat’s Home Minister say?
Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi said that all aspects will be considered in preparing the report. The Uniform Civil Code is the feeling of the Constitution that will establish harmony and equality. For all the citizens of Gujarat get equal rights, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel has formed the UCC Committee. It will be chaired by Ranjana Desai, former Judge of Supreme Court Justice (retired). Retired Senior IAS officer CL Meena, Advocate RC Kodekar, former Vice Chancellor Daksha Thakar and social activist Geeta Shroff are also included in the committee. The Chief Minister has directed this committee to conduct detailed research on this and present a report to the government in the next 45 days.

Earlier this month, Uttarakhand became the first state to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Prime Minister Modi mentioned the Secular Civil Code in his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort last year.
