Waqf amendment bill: On the previous day, Kiren Rijiju introduced the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha. After a long discussion that lasted for more than 12 hours, it has finally been passed from Lok Sabha at 2 pm. 288 votes were cast in its favor and 232 votes in opposition. While the MPs of the ruling party supported this bill, the opposition has strongly opposed this amendment. AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi tore this bill after speaking. On which so much opposition and resentment is going on, can the land of that Waqf be sold. If not, where is that property used.
Meaning of Waqf
Waqf simply means that any property or item donated in the name of Allah, which is donated only for the purpose of philanthropy. Any Muslim can donate his movable or real estate in the name of Waqf. Once a property or land is named after Waqf, then the ownership of that person is over from it and again he cannot be made non -Waqf property. The assets of Waqf are maintained by a Waqf Board present in every state.
Can Waqf’s property be sold?
There are 32 Waqf boards across the country, UP and Bihar also have two Shia Waqf Board. The Waqf Board is considered a legal entity, which looks at the work of property management. Any property of Waqf can neither be sold nor can it be leased. Donating this property means benefiting Muslims or other people. Many times people do their land in the name of Waqf. They are used for public interest.
Where is the property of Waqf used?
Now the question is, where is the property of Waqf used? For example, if someone has two houses or some Maldar is a Muslim, then he gave his name to a house or land in the name of Waqf. Now the Waqf Board can use this land to build a mosque, build a cemetery, open a hospital or settle a poor in it. In Waqf, people can donate any of their movable and immovable property which can donate grounds, books, fields, library, house used.
