The BJP on Monday attacked Congress leader Shashi Tharoor and claimed that he was “marginalized” at the party. BJP’s IT department chief Amit Malviya said that Tharoor contested the post of Congress party president against the “nominated” Mallikarjun Kharge of the Gandhi family, which is why he was sure to go marginalized in the party. Malaviya also alleged that there is nothing but the “company owned by the Congress, the Gandhi family”.

Malaviya wrote in a post on X that Shashi Tharoor was decided to go on the margins in Congress because he dared to contest the post of party president against Mallikarjun Kharge, the nominee of the Gandhi family. At the same time, Malaviya further said that if Tharoor’s public image had been better, then his stature could have been stronger in the Congress. He also alleged that the Congress is nothing but the “owned firm” of the Gandhi family.

Leader of Opposition in Kerala Legislative Assembly VD Satishan questioned the basis of Tharoor’s article and after that Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal tried to clarify the situation about Tharoor’s statement. However, Tharoor made it clear on Sunday that his aim was not to praise the Left Government, but to highlight the progress in the entrepreneurship sector of the state. He also said that there was no political reference in his article and his focus was only on the development of innovation and entrepreneurship in Kerala.

Subsequently, the Congress party’s mouthpiece “Vsakmanam” in Kerala published an editorial criticizing Tharoor, urging them not to cheat the expectations of party workers before the upcoming local body elections. At the same time, the national leadership of the Congress said that the controversy over Tharoor’s article is now over. AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal said that the party had talked to Tharoor on the matter, and was informed that if accurate figures were available on the state’s entrepreneurship development, they would reconsider their attitude. He also said that this issue should not be disputed and it is now a closed chapter.
