Subsequently, cities like Ahmedabad and Nashik also moved in this direction. The main objective of municipal bonds is to raise financial resources for public projects to local governments. Recently, Prayagraj, Varanasi and Agra Municipal Corporations of Uttar Pradesh issued Rs 150 crore bonds.

Municipal bonds help local governments to raise the funds required for the development of infrastructure. They are used for projects like schools, hospitals, roads, and water supply. Investors receive regular income from these bonds in the form of interest (coupons), which are usually tax-free.
