Mahakumbh 2025: Preparations for the Maha Kumbh Mela are now in their final stages. Ghats have been constructed in an area of 12 kilometers for bathing in the Mahakumbh starting from January 13. Before Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s visit to Prayagraj, lighting arrangements have been made at all the ghats, stairs are being prepared and rooms for changing clothes have been made. Uttar Pradesh fair officer Abhinav Pathak said that the work of cleaning system and construction of ghats in an area of 12 kilometers is in progress. He said that the major ghats of the Sangam area have been developed afresh.
Seven permanent ghats were built
He told that during Mahakumbh, seven permanent ghats have been built on the banks of Ganga and Yamuna. These include ‘seating plaza’ (seating arrangement), ‘changing cabin’ (room for changing clothes), parking, Yagyashala, Aarti site and meditation center at the 110 meter long and 95 meter wide Dashashwamedh Ghat built on the banks of river Ganga in Daraganj. Facilities have been provided. Pathak said that similarly, the Kila Ghat built on the banks of river Yamuna is being prepared to handle the huge crowd of bathers.
‘Watch tower’ for monitoring
At the same time, Saraswati Ghat located on Yamuna river will be useful for bathing and other activities. He said that Kali Ghat, Chhatnag Ghat have been constructed on the banks of river Ganga and Mori Ghat and Maheva Ghat have been constructed on the banks of river Yamuna. Different symbols (Damru, Trishul etc.) are being installed on every ghat, so that people can easily identify the ghats. He said that ‘watch towers’ are being installed to monitor the confluence. Water barriers are being arranged at all the ghats. Pathak said all boats are being checked and their capacity and license numbers will be clearly displayed.
Intensive security check at Sangam Ghat and pontoon bridges
With less than a week left for the Mahakumbh to begin, the state police has launched an intensive checking operation in the fair area, especially around the Sangam. Uttar Pradesh government gave this information on Tuesday. The government estimates that around 40 to 45 crore tourists, including foreigners, will come during the religious gathering from January 13 to February 26. A statement issued here said, “To ensure smooth and safe conduct of Maha Kumbh 2025, an intensive checking campaign was launched before the main Snan festival under the leadership of Deputy Inspector General of Police Vaibhav Krishna (IPS). The operation focuses on increasing surveillance of suspicious persons and activities at key locations such as Sangam Ghat, Pontoon Bridge and major intersections.
The DIG instructed all the police station in-charges to increase vigilance in their respective jurisdictions and not to be negligent towards security. According to the statement, special measures have been taken to prevent any untoward incident and ensure public safety. Under the campaign, teams led by Additional Superintendent of Police, Area Officer and Police Station Incharge conducted thorough investigation of suspicious persons and vehicles. Additional security forces were deployed on pontoon bridges to strengthen security measures. In preparation for the upcoming festival, the police is further strengthening the security arrangements. All police stations have been instructed to remain alert and ensure a peaceful Mahakumbh. (Language)
