New Delhi. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya led the ‘Fit India Sunday on Cycle’ event in Gujarat’s Porbandar while Olympic bronze medalist boxer Lovlina Borgohain supported the initiative from Guwahati. Over 150 cyclists accompanied Mandaviya on the five-kilometre journey from Municipal Arts and Commerce College to Taluka School Cricket Ground in Upleta in Porbandar, his Lok Sabha constituency.

Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Borgohain joined the cycling initiative from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) regional center in Guwahati along with other eminent athletes from different parts of the country. Former Commonwealth Heavyweight Wrestling Champion Sangram Singh also pledged his support by attending the event in Delhi. Since its launch by Mandaviya last month, the cycling event has been organized at more than 2500 locations across the country.

“Cycling is the solution to pollution,” Mandaviya said in a release. This is the mantra of good health. Everyone should ride a bicycle as it is beneficial to stay fit. You can form a group and cycle together. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Fit India’ initiative in 2019 with the aim of promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. The Sports Ministry organizes ‘Fit India Sunday on Cycle’ in collaboration with Cycling Federation of India (CFI) and ‘My Bharat’.
