Director Shyam Benegal, who gave many unique films to Hindi cinema, has passed away today. He said goodbye to this world on 23 December 2024. He breathed his last at the age of 90. It is being told that he died at 6.30 pm.

Shyam Benegal was born on 14 December 1934 in Hyderabad. He was the cousin brother of famous actor and film maker Guru Dutt. Benegal was awarded the Padma Shri in the year 1976. After this he also received Padma Bhushan in the year 1991. In the year 2005, he was also awarded the highest film award Dada Dada Saheb Phalke Award.

The film also earned a nomination for the Palme d’Or at the 1976 Cannes Film Festival. Veterans like Girish Karnad, Shabana Azmi, Anant Nag, Amrish Puri, Smita Patil and Naseeruddin Shah had added charm to this film. Shyam Benegal’s best films include ‘Manthan’, ‘Bhumika’, ‘Market Place’, ‘Junoon’, ‘Zubaida’, ‘The Making of Mahatma’ and ‘Sardari Begum’.
