The Uttar Pradesh Assembly during its winter session has passed four bills to establish three new private universities and campuses of foreign universities in the state. According to an official statement, this will help develop Uttar Pradesh as a leading educational hub in the country. Vidya University, Meerut; Vivek University, Bijnor and Chandigarh University, Unnao are the new universities to be established in the state.
Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay said that higher education reforms will improve the image of Uttar Pradesh at the national and international level. He said, “The establishment of new universities and foreign campuses will provide students with the opportunity to receive world-class education in their home state. They will no longer need to go out of the state as high quality education will now be affordable and easily available.” “
These universities will also be eligible to set up campuses in the state
Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay further said that till now only institutions registered in Uttar Pradesh could set up universities within the state. However, the new bill proposes to allow institutions, companies and trusts registered in other states to open private universities in Uttar Pradesh. “Foreign universities recognized by the UGC will also be eligible to set up campuses in the state,” he said.
The Higher Education Minister said that under the recent reforms, new universities like Vidya University Meerut, Vivek University Bijnor and Chandigarh University, Unnao are to be established. He said that these institutions will not only provide quality education to the students, but will also promote regional development and create new employment opportunities. (Input with PTI)
